Bike Fit Options

New for Winter 2024 / 25

Physio Fit:

  • For those who expect nothing less than perfection or have complex anatomical or musculoskeletal requirements, our Physio-Fit is an exciting opportunity to have your bike fit conducted by a chartered-engineer bike fitter and a chartered-physiotherapist in the same session.  This allows us to deliver the highest possible level of bike fit personalization.

Home Trainer Fit:

  • With the increased popularity of indoor riding and dedicated machines from Wattbike, Wahoo, Zwift, Stages and Tacx, we have introduced a new service whereby we come to you for your indoor-trainer Dynamic Fit.  This is available within a zone around 20 miles radius from Southam and will incur a travel cost, but its easier for you than trying to lug one of these monsters to our studio!  See the Dynamic Fit for more details.

Most of our Bike Fits are conducted in our dedicated Bike Fit Studio located in Southam, Warwickshire, where we use only the best procedures and equipment that is needed, and nothing that is not needed.  There are no 'Flash for Cash' services offered here.

  • Matt provides the bike fitting expertise underpinned by 25 years of complex problem solving in the automotive engineering industry and a lifetime of riding and racing bikes.  Brother Chris is a highly experienced and respected physiotherapist with over 24 years of expertise, having helped thousands of patients from office workers to elite athletes overcome injuries and surgeries, experience improve movement, and optimized recovery.  Discover more about Chris here.

  • The first part of your Physio-Fit journey begins as Matt conducts a thorough review of your cycling history and goals.  He will then observe, question and measure both on and off the bike using static and dynamic techniques including video analysis following our DMAIR processes which is based on the engineering industry gold-standard for complex problem solving.

  • Chris will join us for the remainder of your session, beginning with a review of your pre-session submission, where you’ve outlined any relevant injuries, limitations, or medical history. He will begin with an initial assessment to identify key musculoskeletal factors that could impact your fit. Throughout the bike fitting process, Chris will continuously evaluate your movement in real time, reassessing as new restrictions emerge.  This fluid, hands-on approach ensures we address any limitations that might otherwise compromise your optimal riding position—maximizing your biomechanics, comfort, and efficiency on the bike.

  • Every element from pedal to saddle to handlebar will be optimized to meet your goals and physiological capabilities, ensuring a perfect synergy between your body and bike; Rider and Bike As-One

  • A selection of ‘feet & cleat' products, seatposts, stems and handlebars are available for trial, with no obligation to purchase.

  • Our Bike Fit’s are not just a fit, they are also an education so we will explain at each stage what we are doing and why (see here for details). A comprehensive report will be provided, including before and after bike measurements and photos. This will allow you to make small future adaptations with confidence.

  • Your fit evolves as you do. As with all our fits, we provide actionable insights and optional follow-ups, helping you adapt as your strength, flexibility, goals and equipment progress. Crucially, with additional information gathered on physiological limiters, we will also provide a personalized programme of exercises designed to overcome any underlying physiological factors facilitating further improvement to your riding position

  • Please see the Google review from Joshua Toll on our practice run for this session.

Dynamic

Aero-Dynamic

Female Cyclist Riding Cube Bike on Tacx Neo 2T Turbo Trainer
Male Cyclist Riding Enigma Elite HSS Bike on Tacx Neo 2T Turbo Trainer

Best For: Time Trial & Triathlon Bikes and Cyclists who want an Aero Edge

Time: 3 - 3.5 hours (plus report writing time)

Cost: £225*

  • If you’ve spent a fortune on a TT bike or aero components, why not spend a little more to aerodynamically optimize your position and achieve much larger gains?

  • We follow the same process as the Dynamic Fit and it takes longer due to the additional aero focus and cockpit adjustment complexity.

  • Aerodynamics is a highly complex and iterative subject.  I studied it as part of my Engineering Degree at University and spent time in the Aerodynamics Team at Jaguar Land Rover.  Lots of bike coaches and fitters will claim to know about aerodynamics without any formal training, experience of computer simulation or real-world wind tunnel testing.  I posses a basic level of aerodynamic skill gained in a highly regulated industry.  I know enough about aerodynamics to know that I don't know enough!  That being said, I'm confident we can make some significant fundamental improvements to most riders.

  • We’ll focus on your shape and frontal area to significantly improve your CDA.  CD is how aerodynamic your shape is, and A is your frontal area.  Multiply the two and you obtain CDA, your aero-drag which is the all-important number you see quoted in terms of grams (g) or Watts (W).

  • Being an experienced Time Triallist and Triathlete, I recognize the differences required by each of these two disciplines.  So whether aero is all important for that 10 mile TT PB, or being able to run a marathon after a safe and comfortable 112 mile bike ride is your priority, we've got you covered.

  • If you have a road bike and would like us to fit clip-on tri bars during this session, please bring your own or advise if you would like to purchase these options from Profile so we can order them in for you*.

  • This is a great, cost effective first step to make macro changes to your position prior to going to the wind tunnel to get those final micro advantages; there is simply no point in going to a wind tunnel until you've got your fundamental aero sorted.  Despite what you might read or heard, aerodynamics is a largely iterative process with lots of trial and error, especially if it isn't preceded by computer simulation,  We can get your basic fundamentals correct in the studio.  To make further improvements will involve visits to a wind tunnel or use of a system such as Body Rocket in the nearby Catesy Tunnel, both of which I can support you with.

Aero-Dynamic

Junior

Best For: Juniors

Time: 1 hour / 1.5 Hours Inc Cleat Set Up

Cost:  £65  / £100 inc Cleat Set Up*

  • A full bike fit like our Dynamic and Aero-Dynamic options is a time consuming and costly activity that may not be viable to growing children.

  • We believe that attaining a comfortable and efficient riding position should be available to all and for this reason we offer a basic bike fit and focus on ‘easy wins’ to transform your cycling from an unpleasant chore in to an efficient pleasure.

  • We are able to offer this lower cost option by excluding the video analysis, off-bike flexibility checks and report.

  • This is primarily a visual-based Bike Fit using simple tools such as plumb-bob, tape measure and goniometer (to measure knee angles) and assumes you are riding with 'normal' shoes which do not 'lock' in to your pedals.

  • If you use clipless pedals, we can extend the duration of the fit by 30 minutes to get your cleats positioned perfectly using the same method as our Dynamic Fit.

  • After observing you riding your bike on the Turbo Trainer we will improve your position by demonstrating correct foot position and adjusting your saddle and handlebar positions.

  • Normally there will be insufficient time to trial different components, and if required  may incur an extra charge at the standard hourly rate â€‹â€‹.

Junior

Second Bike

Male Cyclist Riding Trek Procaliber Bike on Tacx Neo 2T Turbo Trainer

Best For: Those who regularly ride another bike

Time: Additional 1.5 hours

Cost: £95 addition*

  • If you've got two bikes you need optimizing, we can do both in one session which can be especially useful if your bikes are of a significantly different type.

  • It's also advantageous to get your winter and summer road bikes set up to their most appropriate positions for the way they will be used.  See my Blog here.

  • This option includes optimizing the cleats on a second set of shoes.

  • More bikes can be fitted at further additional cost.

Second Bike

Cleat Set Up

Best For: Those who want their cleats set up properly

Time: 45 minutes

Cost: £50*

  • Every bike fit starts with the feet and optimal cleat positioning is personal to you.

  • So if you have purchased a new pair of pedals or shoes, new cleats to replace some worn ones or have never felt that you have positioned them correctly we can do this for you and establish the foundations of a perfect bike position.

Cleat Set Up

Advanced Foot Correction

Form Forefoot Inshoe Wedge
Form Cleat Wedge
Form Cleat Extender Plate XPU

Best For: Those who:

  • Don’t feel properly ‘connected’ to their pedals.

  • Have significant Varus or Valgus angle of the forefoot (over or under-pronation)

  • Are knock-kneed or bow legged.

  • Have wide knee spacing due to poor hip flexibility or large stomach.

Time: Approx additional 30 minutes

Cost: £35 addition*

  • Any proper bike fit starts with the feet.

  • As part of our bike fitting service we will ensure that your cleats are optimally positioned in their three standard adjustment directions within the limits of each component: longitudinally, laterally and rotationally.

  • We will also add shims to allow for any leg length differences as required.  This will be sufficient for most clients, and saves spending time and money unnecessarily.

  • The Advanced Foot Correction option allows us to perform a much more involved investigation, based on you exact wants and needs.

  • Some people will require some degree of yaw correction because their feel "collapse" inwards or outwards under load.  If you run, you will know this as over or under-pronation and if you have orthotics in your running shoes to correct this, you may benefit from angled shims under your cleats or shoe insoles.

  • Many cycling shoes have the cleat holes in the 'wrong' position, which usually drives the cleats too far forwards and / or outwards relative to your optimal position.  With this option we investigate and experiment with Extender Plates and other components to obtain the correct position with your existing shoes.

  • It is almost inevitable that when we go through this process you will require some of the following foot correction products:

    • In-shoe Wedge (Yaw Correction - top photo)

    • Under-cleat Wedge (Yaw Correction - middle photo)

    • Shoe Extension Plates (Longitudinal and Lateral Correction - bottom photo)

  • We have a close relationship with Form Bikefitting who have created an excellent range of good value, high performance products dedicated to Foot Correction which can be seen in our Shop.

Foot Correction

Consultancy

Best For: To Discuss and Investigate any element of Bike Fitting

Time: Any

Cost: £65 per hour

  • This is a free-form option where anything goes!

  • So if you want to try a different saddle or handlebars, for example, then this is for you.

  • Also, if you have previously had a bike fit with us, this offers a good value follow up with either the same or different bike.

  • This can be conducted in our Bike Fit studio or via video-call, whichever you prefer.

  • If you need advice on Bike Sizing or which bikes and components to buy, please see our page on Bike Buying Advice.

Notes on Pricing

*Notes on Pricing

I want to keep matters on pricing as simple, transparent and fair as possible.

  • The simplest thing to note is that my standard hourly rate is £65 for all activities, including travel.  This doesn't all go in to my pocket of course; I have overheads and tax to pay.

  • Any reasonable pre and post-fit conversations and email communication's are not charged for.

  • The durations' suggested above are guide times based on normal circumstances.  Occasionally life is not normal and additional time will be required to make a change safely.  I will advise during the process if additional time is required for you to make an informed decision about whether to proceed or not ensuring you don't get any unexpected charges on your bill.

  • Prices stated for Bike Fits are for the time aspect of the activity only.  No parts are included in any of the services offered by us.

    • Parts you bring with you are fitted free of charge, assuming we deem them safe and suitable for fitment and use, and they can be safely fitted in the allotted time.

    • Parts supplied by Precision Cycle Fit are charged on top of the Bike Fit per the prices in our Shop section.

  • Although I am an accomplished bike mechanic and will do my best to make all adjustments required to achieve your optimal position, some newer bikes with disc brakes, internal cable / hose routing and integrated front ends are very difficult and time consuming to work on and may required additional proprietary parts and tools.  This is especially true for TT and Triathlon bikes.  Occasionally certain adjustment may not be possible 'on the day'.  Similarly, it may not be possible to fully reassemble your bike in to a safe working condition within the allotted time.  In circumstances such as these we will discuss options such as leaving the bike with me to complete the work after the session has finished.  This will be charged at my standard hourly.  In some instances where it is safe and pragmatic to do so, another option may be that you take your bike to your preferred bike mechanic for them to complete the rebuild process.

If you are uncertain about any of the above, please ask for clarification.
